01 What clinical data sources does Fourier use?

Fourier Health brings multi-source, multi-format clinical records together to deliver thorough longitudinal summaries and clinical histories. In addition to clinical records stored in the home EHR (including imaging, stored PDFs, and scanned handwritten notes), we regularly use faxed and scanned documentation provided by patients and lab and testing results. We also have independent access to regional HIEs, and connectivity to clinical data consortiums such as CommonWell and CareQuality.

Fourier’s model is enormously flexible. We typically begin our partnerships with a low-lift, low integration model that allows us and our partner organizations the opportunity to identify and confirm the right place in the clinical workflow for the Fourier output to be delivered- something that is different for each of our partners and is impacted by the type of clinical care being provided, how new patients are to the partner practice, intake and discharge workflows, and a host of other organization-specific realities. Once we’ve isolated the ideal workflow model, we have the opportunity to integrate several ways; by traditional HL7, API, or via a Smart on FHIR app that sits next to your EHR.

There are two important ways that Fourier summaries are MEANINGFULLY BETTER, than summaries available in core EHR systems.

First, Fourier summaries are customized. Our platform was developed to offer almost unlimited, low-lift customization of output. We know that an Oncology specialist needs to see a highly specific body of clinical data in order to optimize decisions together with their patient. Separately, a Rheumatologist or Geriatrician would need totally different content and format as well. EHRs today summarize clinical records, but not in a way that is optimized for the clinical use case or medical decisions needing to be made.

Second, Fourier leverages the power of the full, longitudinal clinical record; handwritten documents, PDFs, faxes, HIE data, and consortium data. EHRs only utilize digital content within the home EHR for their summaries. There is no question that providing a full view of the patient’s clinical history, known diagnoses, interventions and medications amplifies the provider’s ability to provide extremely high-quality care with a fraction of the time and effort it would require to mine, document, code, or bill for this information manually.
